Microsoft punishing Halo hackers, early release rumoured

Aug 25, 2010

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few days, you will be well aware that top-secret review code of Bungie’s forthcoming entry to their multi-million selling shooter series Halo: Reach has been accessed by hackers and leaked across file-sharing networks, a full three weeks before its street date.

Well, there’s good news and there’s bad news, the bad news being for the toe-rags that couldn’t resist the temptation and downloaded a cracked copy of Reach. The Xbox LIVE Enforcement Team are on the case and the zero-tolerance, permanent ban-hammer is falling on anyone found to be playing Reach pre-release.

The good news, however, is for the rest of us. While still only a rumour, it’s understood that Microsoft are in last-minute crisis talks discussing the possibility of bringing Reach‘s release date forward to limit the damage from this breach of security. Either way, gamers intending on getting Reach via conventional means may want to keep away from Youtube for a while – some inconsiderate numb-nuts has uploaded the game’s ending.

Halo: Reach is currently set for release on September 14th, exclusively for Xbox 360.
