Dead Rising 2 Pulls Out All The Stops In Europe

Aug 12, 2010

In a move almost unheard of in the grand scheme of gaming, apocalyptic action adventure sequel Dead Rising 2 has been brought forward a week in PAL regions, namely Europe and Australia. Capcom’s latest zombie slash-em-up was originally tipped for worldwide release in September but was delayed until October 1st.

Dead Rising 2 stars new main character Chuck Greene in the Vegas-inspired Fortune City. Very few details pertaining to the actual plot have been revealed but many of the new game mechanics have been teased in various interviews. Not only can almost anything in the field be used as protection against the living dead, different items can be combined to make even crazier weapons, like the Paddlesaw – two chainsaws attached to each end of a rowing oar.

The game will also feature online co-operative and competitive multiplayer modes, where up to four players can star in fictional television show ‘Terror Is Reality’ and take part in all sorts of wild fun and games.

As if all this wasn’t exciting enough, Xbox 360 users get an extra-special treat as a reward for making the first game, a 360-exclusive, so successful. Case Zero is a downloadable prequel chapter set three years before Dead Rising 2, starring Chuck and his daughter Katey in the town of Still Creek. Katey has been infected with the zombie virus and needs a life-saving drug, Zombrex, every 12 hours.

Apparently boasting 2-3 hours of gameplay, Case Zero will act as an introduction to the character of Chuck, and to all the new features of Dead Rising 2. Better still, any stats that level up as you play through Case Zero can later be carried over to the main game.

Dead Rising 2 will be released earlier than anticipated on September 24th for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The PC version will now be released on September 28th. Downloadable episode Case Zero will be released exclusively on the Xbox Live Marketplace at the end of August.

The big question is – what platform do we buy this on? I prefer PS3, but I know you guys mostly have 360s … oh, decisions decisions!

I’ll be getting mine on 360, and the downloadable prequel thingamy. The multiplayer sounds immense so I think 360 is essential :)
