Happy Easter From GGS!

Apr 4, 2010

Happy Easter, from me to you! I figured Robbie the Bunny from Silent Hill 3 is a fitting mascot for the season. In honor of the holiday, I thought we’d share some nostalgic and terrifying moments in gaming that caused us to jump and pause the game in a hurry. Or is that just me who does that? Here’s some contributions from me!

When I was a young lass, I played Silent Hill 2 for the very first time. I was in the apartment buildings and trying to figure out what to do, and I ended up backtracking a lot. After a few pointless circles, I heard a loud scream down the hallway! This didn’t make any sense, because I had just been there and didn’t see anything. As I retraced my steps, the now infamous Pyramid Head was waiting for me, standing behind the grate, while the radio squealed. I remember I was so startled and actually fired at him a little bit, because I didn’t realize he was behind the fence. And even when I went into the apartment, I was rushing around like crazy, checking every corner. I was so worried about him springing an ambush that, for years, I never saw the guy who caused the initial scream — which was the mysterious dude who blew his brains out on the TV in that room.

Another oldie, but to this day I still haven’t beaten Fatal Frame. My weakness is fire, cats, and GHOSTS. I don’t have a single explanation to justify my irrational fear of not being able to kill something you can’t see, so I’ll just re-direct you to !

Anyone have a funny reaction to a scary moment in games? I like playing survival horror with friends because it’s better to scream together.

I didn’t know that can happen! That’s a funny easter egg-ish deal. OH MAN, easter egg? Easter post? I’m so clever.

Let’s see. My biggest scare in RE4 was when I knocked down a Regenerator, and I was trying to make a little more room so I could swing around and use the special infrared to snipe its weak points. As Leon ran past it on the ground, it DOLPHIN FLIPPED and grabbed him, and then proceeded to saw away at his neck :(

Oh my God. Resident Evil 2. FULL of scares. Absolutely FULL of them. The most memorable for me, where I actually screamed (god help my poor viewer’s ears), was when you have to enter the interrogation room. The one that’s double sided and has a mirror/window type thing. I was just going along, doing my thing, picking up items. As I go to leave a Licker CRASHES through the window RIGHT NEXT TO ME. Causing me (in real life) to scream, flail my arms, and roll off my bed, while some how being able to pause. I will never forget that scare.

Lol, y’know, I WAS going to add a RE2 scare but I figured by then my list would be too long. I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEAN, THOUGH! That game seriously punked me anytime a zombie or licker or crows crashed through a window as I passed by. And the puzzles!! ARGH! That game was designed by Satan’s mistress.
