Prey Runs out of Steam

Jan 1, 2010

Actually, the title’s wrong – Steam ran out of Prey. But as that’s not so snappy a title, we’ll brush over that and move on. Ahem.

Do you know how you can run out of something that isn’t tangible? No, me neither. But that’s exactly what has happened over at Steam during their holiday sale.

Prey, the 2006 story of Tommy, a “Cherokee garage mechanic stuck on a reservation going nowhere when an otherworldly crisis forces him to awaken spiritual powers from his long-forgotten birthright”, hit the sales at a staggering 80% off, retailing for just $2.25. And, as like anything else on the planet that retails for 80% off, the bargain-hunters went crazy and picked up every virtual copy Steam had, wiping the key allocation and essentially ‘selling out’ of the digital copy.

The Steam website says “Our sale on Prey was so popular we ran out of keys!! If we can get more, we’ll put it back up for sale. ”

If this isn’t just cause for that double exclamation mark, I don’t know what the hell is.

Haha, I don’t even see how that’s possible, I played Prey back when it came out because my brother bought it, and I thought it was one of the most mediocre FPS titles ever :P
