Just Dance Is Better than Red Dead Redemption. Apparently.

Jul 23, 2010

I love the game Just Dance. It’s just so FUN and INNOVATIVE and CHALLENGING and -

- yeah, okay. I’m lying. I can’t help it. I know that this is not impartial journalism at it’s best but seriously – I’ve played and tried to like the game (not least to find out what the feck the fuss is about) but … well, it does nothing for me. It’s everything a video game shouldn’t be, and yet it’s been outrageously, ridiculously successful.

And I mean it when I say it’s been outrageously successful. MCV have just revealed that it’s beaten off competition from titles like Red Dead Redemption, 2010 FIFA World Cup and Final Fantasy XIII to become the UK’s biggest selling title for the first half of 2010. Yes. Really. And although RDR is running a close second with 819,161 sales since it’s release, the Wii dancing game has managed to shift 940,358 units this year alone. Which is … well, kind of crazy.

Don’t believe me? Here’s the proof!

Top 10 UK Video Game Sales (Jan-Jun 2010)

Does it deserve to be the top selling game so far in the UK? Yes? No? Tell me your views below!

I don’t own a dance mat. My boyfriend’s mother, however, does, and I wonder if this isn’t the secret here. Look at the game’s comments on Amazon – mothers talking about losing weight, buying it for their kids. Working out to a video full of ‘tards in ‘tards got embarrassing and boring years ago, but Wii’s made that whole home exercise thing fun and cool again. So while I’m crunched into an uncomfortable ball, locked into [Vagrant Story & StarCraft2, atm], bf’s mother is bouncing about giggling and getting fit. I’m scared to admit this, but she’s kind of making me covet a dance mat of my very own. Although I’d probably make sure everyone was out of the house before using it…
