Martini Game Vending: Any Time, Any Place, Any Where

Dec 16, 2009

Here’s the scenario – you’ve suddenly realised that you’re a fool for having not given in and purchased CoD: Modern Warfare II yet and you want it RIGHT NOW. Problem is, it’s two a.m. and all of your favourite stores are closed. You could wait until the morning or order it online but . . . isn’t there an even quicker way?

There is now if you live near one of the 150 POP247 UK locations. The kiosks – which are already available in the US – are a joint venture between Universal and Sony Pictures and hold up to 400 games and DVDs, including blu-ray discs. There are also plans to provide data downloads direct to Sony memory sticks.

There is one of these machines in the Vue cinema in Leeds, I find myself having a quite browse through it’s stock everytime I’m near by waiting for a film. It’s a great idea, though the one in Leeds doesn’t currently have any games available to purchase. The film prices are reasonable though they’re no better than what you can pay in a normal retail store.
I think the main problem with the one in Leeds is that it simply isn’t in the right environment. I for one wouldn’t feel the need to go down to my local cinema to buy a film or game.
