Welcome to our weekly Community Q!
Once a week we flip the tables and listen to what you guys have to say . . . rather than sitting back and make you listen to us!
Community Q: Do you have any “comfort” video games? Ones that you go back to when you’re feeling crap, etc. Why? What’s special about it?
Got an idea for a future Community Q question? Drop us a line and tell us about it!
Resident Evil 2, preferably on Dreamcast, the definitive console version. Just because it was the very first huge release after I first got my PlayStation. I played the demo over and over, I was SO excited for it. I had to spend a good couple of months after it was released wearing my mother down to let me buy it. It’s just as special to me today as it was then.
You can’t beat a really good RTS on PC, for me it has to be the Dawn of War series. I do find myself playing it in times of boredom of just low-ness, it just seems to drain the hours so effectively. Plus really getting into the plot and strategy element is the perfect thing to take your mind off the real world!
I have several!
Tomb Raider: Last Revelation, Final Fantasy VIII and Shadow Hearts: Covenant.
Why? They all have good memories associated with them. It’s lush to just sit down with one of them and lose yourself for a few hours. :)
When I was primarily a PC gamer, I’d have to say the original Call of Duty. I could pick up that game head onto a server and destroy 15 or so players for a good couple of hours. Never let me down.
Now that I’m more of a console gamer I’ll probably dive into a quick game of Burnout Paradise or Split Second Velocity.
I consider them ‘pick up and play’ games. Within minutes you can by flying around a track or scoring a goal and you don’t really have to worry about any crappy load times.
For me, it would normally be either GTA IV or Endless Ocean. I can normally just go and get stuck into GTA for a few hours and do some crazy driving and some missions to cheer me up, but Endless Ocean is possibly the most relaxing game I’ve ever played; the music is increadibly soothing, and you can get just do for ages swimming around looking at the different fish. However, I might sometimes play The Sims or Tropico 3 as a way to drain some hours!
The Sims, currently 3, which isn’t a traditional comfort game I guess but I always can go back to it.
